The cuckoo is inside of every clock, as unlike other birds it’s call is heard regularly throughout the day marking time and should you hear the first cuckoo call of the year, then raise your hand in salute, shout “Hail Cuckoo” and turn round three times in an anti clockwise direction, for then you will have good luck. Avoid sleeping inside of fairy rings as this will cause you bad luck and you’re likely to be arrested on vagrancy charges the following morning. These and many more anecdotes were humorously presented by Chris Andrews from the RSPB on Friday evening as he detailed the many plants and lifeforms associated to common (and some uncommon) folklore.
