Hardy Exotics & Creating Microclimates
Colin Ward with help from Karen, bought along a huge variety of hardy plants. These were individually shown in his talk and many were available to buy afterwards. He gave us an enormous wealth of information on how to change the microclimate in our gardens. Most of the plants originated in Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, China and Chile.
Did you know: the Aspidistra, which we think of as an indoor plant, can be grown outdoors (it’s a shade lover); the ‘Windmill Palm’ is a palm that is ideal for our climate; ant powder mixed with sugar is a great way of getting rid of annoying ants. These were just a few facts that Colin shared with us in his excellent presentation.
