A cruise on the cut

Derek has held a lifelong passion for boating and the canal system and presented a very interesting history of the British Canal system (otherwise known as “The Cut”) which examined its varying styles and architecture and some of the problems the engineers had to overcome that the challenges of the changing landscapes presented to them.

Before the railways it was the canal system which provided the transport of materials for industry that was built next to the water. Derek has published a novel and a book of stories about “The Cut” under his pseudonym of Rupert Ashby and those purchasing his books were lucky enough to get theirs signed by the author.
